Brené Brown once said, “We don’t have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to.” In fact, from the very moment you reach out to the Cognitive Behavior Institute for help, you are not facing your struggles unaided. There’s strength in being able to say, “I’m here to get through this, and others have come alongside me to help along the way.” In opening our third office location, we wanted to share our therapeutic secret sauce served daily in Cranberry Township and Mt. Lebanon with kids, adults, couples, and families residing in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh.
When we struggle with depression, anxiety, or any other mental health condition, often times we will try to “hold it together” in front of friends and family to avoid feeling like a burden. Unfortunately, not only can this make us feel worse and increasingly isolated, but it can also strain relationships with those around us. When you join us at our Monroeville location, you are coming in to meet your own personal guide to a healthier, happier life. You don’t have to do it alone; you were never meant to, and we believe we can help.
We understand that when you aren’t feeling well, making that first call for help can seem like one of the hardest things you’ve ever done. Rest assured, whenever you contact any one of our locations, our warm, welcoming office staff will be happy to get you set up with a clinician as quickly as possible. If you have any preferences (male/female, older/younger), please share those with us so we can do our best to ensure a good therapist/client match. Once some basic information is collected and you’re on the schedule for your first appointment, take a minute to congratulate yourself; you’ve taken the first step to a new you.
One of the many new and exciting things we’re bringing on our journey to wellness with you is the openFIT program. This innovative online platform allows us to not only keep track of your progress overall but also how well you feel sessions with your clinician are going. To measure this, an ultra-brief survey is collected at the beginning and end of each session to ensure your treatment is on track. The initial measure asks how you feel things have gone over the last week individually, interpersonally, socially, and overall, all on a scale of 0-10. This gives the clinician an idea of how you’ve been doing since your last appointment which can guide what to focus on during the session. The second survey allows you to rate (using the same scale) your working relationship with your clinician, how well desired goals and topics were covered, how good of a fit you feel the clinician’s approach or method is, and how you felt the session went overall. These scales are used to build a Culture of Feedback into the therapeutic process. As scores accumulate over time, the program creates graphs to make it easier to review your progress on treatment goals. Depending on this, your clinician may talk to you about how he or she can do things differently or what could have been improved on during the session. This research-validated approach to treatment allows us to provide the highest quality of care possible so that you can feel better, faster.
Perhaps at this very moment, you may be wondering how long it will take until you’re back to being you. Just as in other areas of life, the road to becoming healthier and happier can be winding and seemingly unconquerable at times. As you work with your clinician and track scores through openFIT, you’ll begin to see an upward trend in your life. This can be difficult to recognize at first, but don’t get discouraged. Part of your clinician’s job is to help you recognize and celebrate the “little wins” in therapy. These “wins” can be as simple as getting out of bed when you didn’t want to, going outside for a few minutes, writing a letter to someone who’s hurt you, doing your hair, cleaning off a table, or having one good day, hour, or even minute. In the middle of the darkest of nights, there’s always some light to be found somewhere, and where there’s a little, there’s sure to be more. The search for that light isn’t meant to be traveled alone, as it too, can be a difficult road. At CBI, we are here to be your coach, your co-pathfinder, your support, your clinician, and your way home. Contact us today.
