Dr. Jonathan Impellizzeri, PhD, LPC, LMFT, ACS, BC-TMH Co-Clinical Director Dr. Impellizzeri also known as “Dr. J.” is the first Certified Gottman Couple Therapist (CGT) in Western Pennsylvania.  CGT’s have extensive and specialized training in a research-based approach to treating distressed couple relationships. In 2017, Dr. J launched the Center for Marriage and Family at CBI which focuses on providing high-quality relationship-oriented therapy that is research-informed, client directed, and peppered with a healthy dose of compassion.  Dr. J specializes in working with couples who are struggling with just about anything under the sun including infidelity, gridlocked conflict, pre-marital enrichment, grief & loss issues, trauma, faith conflicts, emotionally-distant relationships, and parenting differences. In addition to providing the more conventional one-hour therapy session per week, Dr. J also conducts marathon therapy (2-day intensive) with couples who are interested in taking a deep dive into relationship healing.  See our website for more details. Dr. J is a pro-marriage couples therapist who will lobby for the well-being of your relationship. Dr. J also serves as a Clinical Director of the Cognitive Behavior Institute where he provides clinical supervision, training, and consultation for a staff of more than 40 mental health professionals.  He has extensive counseling experience in community based, outpatient, and group private practice settings. Outside of his clinical office, Dr. J is a full-time professor and Director of the Marriage and Family Counseling Program at Geneva College.  He teaches a variety of graduate-level courses including Faith-Based Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, Professional Ethics, and Psychopathology. Dr. Impellizzeri specializes in pre-marital counseling, marital enrichment, couples therapy, family conflict, grief/loss, co-parenting, drug and alcohol, trauma, faith conflicts, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, anger management, life transitions, and acculturation stress.
